Bullish Nancy shows no fear of the sack yet the Parkhead faithful display anger after defeat.
The Celtic boss declared he did not fear losing his job, asserting, “I believe we are very near to a turnaround,” even after sliding worryingly close to the exit with a convincing setback against their arch-rivals.
A Second-Half Collapse Results in Old Firm Loss
Celtic were in front the visitors at the break but a second-half capitulation allowed the Gers to pull level on points with the current Scottish Premiership champions. Nancy, who was hired in December, has now presided over six setbacks in his first eight games.
“There is unity with the board,” insisted Nancy.
Questioned about his own future, he said: “That’s not my focus. I concentrate on discovering solutions to aid my players to be good on small moments.
Supporters' Anger Outside Parkhead
Hundreds of supporters displayed their anger – directed at the dugout and directors – by protesting at Parkhead. The board are reportedly likely to re-appoint the former boss, who enjoyed a successful caretaker period previously, should a change be made.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the reality for the moment. Yet when I say this is the reality, it doesn’t mean that I am a defeatist guy. Absolutely not. What I mean the turnaround is near, extremely close to reverse our form.”
“Really, Really Close”
Nancy remains focused on the fact the side play well for a half at a time. Indeed, if not for missed chances they could have been greater than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit other than the fact that we missed a second goal,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be objective.
“The performance we had at certain moments was exceptionally high. That happened. I wouldn't speak so positively if it was different. But that’s why, when it comes to wins, I mentioned this is the same story. For that reason I feel we are really close to things turning around. Right now: details, details, details.”
“I saw a lot of encouraging signs that we did, like today again. However is sustaining it. My outlook would not be the same. That’s why I am convinced the team can to get back on track.”
Opposition Reaction Response
Rangers manager played down talk of a title charge in spite of what appeared to be a landmark win. “We take it game by game, and we can really build up momentum,” he said. “The belief in the team is outstanding.”
