A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
