This winter recruitment period is always a time of feverish speculation and possible major deals. A number of notable stars are being connected to moves away from their present clubs. We examine some of the key names that are poised to be changing clubs this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player in contention, reports suggest a major move is close. This 25-year-old possesses a deal featuring a £65 million buy-out clause applicable for a brief window in early January. Latest developments point to the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Former suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The English defender has continued to excel for Palace despite a summer transfer to Liverpool collapsing. With his deal set to run out in the summer, this represents the London club's final opportunity to secure a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous elite clubs, such as City and several continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a winter exit remains difficult, particularly given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has had starting opportunities limited at Tottenham this campaign. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has started just a small number of Premier League games. It is understood the London club would be willing to consider a transfer for the correct price, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a comeback to the English top flight after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still just 28, while his contract expiring in the summer, he is a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the player. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spain that he would be willing to take a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barcelona under the manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a winter departure looks increasingly likely. Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

The prolific England centre-forward has kept finding the net frequently in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League might enhance his dwindling hopes of making the national squad. However, arranging a transfer presents significant challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to sell him, and his alleged huge weekly wages render any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all linked as interested parties.

The striker was instrumental as his Saudi club to a win in the Saudi Super Cup showpiece.

C. Gallagher

This energetic midfielder attracted widespread attention in the off-season but remained at Atlético. H. Elliott

Although excelling and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, the talented midfielder has found it tough for minutes on loan at Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the loan move won't become permanent. Because of FIFA regulations regarding representing multiple teams in a campaign, a return to Liverpool prior to next summer seems to be the sole viable solution.

K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey attacker is in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his current contract running down, a host of Premier League clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the youngster to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

The much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a big-money move this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing strong competition from Real Madrid for a signing priced at approximately £22 million.
