The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
