Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their first World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, making him third in history trailing only Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
